Too much Digital device users often report complaints of eye dryness, burning, grittiness, or heaviness. When using a computer, the blink rate is decreased and the exposed ocular surface area is increase. And various factors causing dryness are:
Environmental factors - the office with dry air, Ventilation fans, static buildup airborne paper dust, laser, and photocopy
Reduced Blink rate and increased Exposure - As we stare at the computer screen or while reading, our blink rate decreases. We actually blink 66% less while working on the computer. This will cause your eyes to feel dry and burn.
Age - Tear production normally decreases with age. Although dry eye can occur at any age in both men and women.
Contact lens use - the contact lens surface should skate along the eye and eyelid surface with minimal resistance. if the ocular surface in dry and adhere to the upper eyelid during the blink. Eye produces discomfort.
Age - Cosmetics - Poorly applied cosmetics can block the opening of the oil secreting meibomian glads, This is turn contributes to a rapid evaporation of the water component of the tear film and the resultant discomfort.
Solutions:
1. Become aware when you are not blinking enough and try to blink more frequently
2. Looking away from the computer and into the distance for at least 20 seconds every 20 minutes.
3. Use eye lubricants
